Frequently asked questions.
How do neurotoxins work?
Neurotoxins block the signal from the nerves to the injected muscle that causes them to contract. This “relaxation” of muscle activity reduces fine lines to soften your expressions.
How long can I expect my results to last?
Most patients can expect their neurotoxin treatment to last 3-4 months, while others may notice results lasting up to 6 months.
Results for neurotoxin are like a bell-curve which slowly wane overtime. Metabolic rate is the primary factor that will influence how long your neurotoxin treatments last.
Are there any pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions?
To minimize risk of bruising, avoidance of alcoholic beverages and NSAIDs (i.e. Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, etc.) is recommended for 24 hours prior to injection.
After care instructions include:
Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment
No strenuous exercise x 24 hours
No facial massage, tight hats, headbands, or facial pressure to the area for 24-48 hours after treatment
Are there any contraindications?
Yes. Safety is our #1 priority.
Contraindications include:
Pregnancy
Breastfeeding
Neurological disease
Active facial infection
Upcoming eye/face surgery
Previous reaction to any botulinum toxin product
If you have a history of cardiac disease, we ask that you check with your specialist first.
If you have a history of milk or egg allergy, we can use some products but not others.
What can I expect on the day of my visit?
Your board-certified Nurse Practitioner will arrive at your home at the time of your scheduled visit with everything needed for your appointment, including an examination table that is easily set up.
After reviewing your past medical history, you will be given time to review and sign our consent forms. All of your consent forms and details about your treatment will be stored in our HIPAA compliant medical record.
We will then discuss your treatment goals and assess your facial anatomy to make recommendations on neurotoxin placement and dosing.
Once an agreed upon plan is in place, injections themselves only take a few minutes!
After carefully reviewing post care instructions, we’ll schedule a two-week touch-up for any necessary dose adjustments.
Will I look fake or overdone?
Absolutely not. Our goal at MIEL is to enhance your natural beauty — not change it. We take a conservative approach to neurotoxins to keep you looking like you.
How can I get the most of my results?
Basics before Botox! While Botox can be both preventative and corrective, the best way to make the most of your treatments is to pair them with a simple, consistent skincare routine. We recommend a gentle cleanser, Vitamin C serum, nightly retinol, and religious use of SPF.
